Dear colleague,

As some of you know I have been thinking about the development of an
ontology for the
georeferencing of biological samples and records for some months.

Earlier this month I decided to have a go at developing a draft
ontology for this
purpose. This is attached (geo.obo). In addition, I have drafted a
whitepaper
which will give the background, rationale and methodology
(georeferencing-ontology.doc,
a MS Word file).

I very much want input on this.

The ontology itself is in OBO format and can conveniently be viewed
in OBO-EDIT,
which is freely downlaodable from:

www.oboedit.org

Unfortunately I cannot attend the small meeting of the Ontogenesis group
next week, but I am sending this to several of you who will be there
in the
hope that it will stimulate some discussion.

Please feel free to redistribute these documents to others you know
who may
have an interest.

Thankyou, Michael Ashburner
