The GSC wiki home page banner has been created using images owned by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, UK.
[edit] Upload a file
If you receive an error message when attempting a file upload, there are two common causes:
- file size - The wiki is configured to accept uploaded files of up to 100Mb
- To resolve - reduce the file size, or contact wiki admin to request increase in maximum file size accepted
- the file mime type may not be recognised.
- To resolve this, it is necessary to update the mime.types and possibly mime.info files in the wiki
Please email curator@ceh.ac.uk with any problems that may occur

A Google search bar has been added to footer of each wiki page. The search is restricted to the gensc.org domain.

[edit] Ideas for Wiki
[edit] Semantic Wiki
[edit] IkeWiki
http://ikewiki.salzburgresearch.at/
From IkeWiki web site:
IkeWiki is a new kind of Wiki (a Semantic Wiki ) developed by SalzburgResearch that allows users to annotate pages and links between pages with semantic annotations. Such annotations are useful because they give machines a certain amount of "understanding" of the content that goes beyond merely displaying the page. This information can then e.g. be used for context-specific presentation of pages, advanced querying, consistency verification or drawing conclusions.
[edit] KIWI
From project web site:
The project KIWI is concerned with knowledge management in Semantic Wikis and funded by the European Commission under the Project Number 211932 in the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). KIWI's objective is to investigate how knowledge management in highly dynamic environments can be supported using Semantic Wiki technologies, and how Semantic Wikis can be improved to satisfy the requirements of knowledge management.
[edit] Semantic MediaWiki
http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Semantic_MediaWiki
From project web site:
Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) is a free extension of MediaWiki – the wiki-system powering Wikipedia – that helps to search, organise, tag, browse, evaluate, and share the wiki's content. While traditional wikis contain only texts which computers can neither understand nor evaluate, SMW adds semantic annotations that bring the power of the Semantic Web to the wiki.
[edit] Introduce Link Back on Wiki Pages
Make use of a function in the wiki that lists the pages that link to a given page.. Use this function to provide a list of links on the actual page, back to the pages that link to it.
Advantages
- supports wiki content model - many-to-many links
- could be used to indicate page hierarchy e.g. if page links here, it may be a more general information page
Disadvantages
- requires writing MediaWiki extension
- reduced usability encountered if many pages (30+) link to a given page
