MIGS Extensions
From Genomic Standards Consortium
All fields in MIGS must meet the following criteria:
- Be an appropriate extension of existing INSDC qualifiers and information collected in the NCBI Genome Projects database
- Be objective facts about genomic investigations (information that, ideally, the generators of a genome can best provide, but this does not exclude input by relevant experts)
- Contain specific information about the genome sequenced, while general information (for example, about a species) should be held in authoritative databases
- Include clearly defined pieces of information using values selected from controlled vocabularies
While MIGS is just an extension of the amount of 'minimum' information already collected by the INSDC, it is further possible to extend MIGS. For example, the Genome Catalogue already contains the "Minimum Information about a Metagenomic Sequence" (MIMS), a specific 'minimum' extension for metagenomic data sets.
