SRF
From Genomic Standards Consortium
Background provided by Asim Siddiqui (for more information refer to http://srf.sf.net)
SRF and MIGS are described together in an article in Bioinform: http://www.bioinform.com/issues/11_12/webreprints/139602-1.html
BACKGROUND
SRF is a format for describing reads obtained from a DNA sequencer. The format is flexible, allowing reads from any platform to be stored. The use of common standard enables data from different pkatforms to be integrated more easily.
A public mailing list is available here: http://www.bcgsc.ca/mailman/listinfo/ssrformat More information is available here: http://srf.sf.net
Work is underway to build an API that will be hosted on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/srf/).
Alignment and Assembly Format (AAAF)
A proposal for Alignment and Assembly Format (AAAF) is being developed to support the next layer of information. It is envisioned that this layer will integrate with standards such as MIGS and MINSEQE.
