Follow up: link to IMG page which describes the IMG OID policies.
http://img.jgi.doe.gov/pub/doc/objectIdentifiers.html
Present: Krishna (IMG), Dawn, Tanya
Purpose was to touch base with the IMG about their identifiers and initiate collaboration on GRS. Victor put us in touch with Krishna.
K: yes, happy to be a direct partner. We keep GOLD up to date with IMG identifiers after each release.
K: We map all IMG id's to PIDs. Some issues with eukaryotes being more problematic with PID (e.g. which replicons are included).
TG: tried to demo new resolver, but GSC site inaccessible again
Tanya described it, want to add mash up function (if SOAP or REST for identifier)
DF: gave background to GRS, said it would proceed through a series of steps - sign up, agree to map to PID, describe policy on the web, make available through a spreadsheet, implement
web services, consume, and make new tools.
K: IMG policy - yes we can describe in on the web. In brief, in the IMG, each gneome has an object identifer and belongs to a taxon class,
a plain number that is never re-used, but when a genome is reloaded, there is a new
id (when published or a problem is found). Very analogous to NCBI gi number. Only guarantee is that an identifier is never used again.
DF: Are you happy to post the mapping to the web.
K: Yes, will make a spreadsheet right away and post details to web site.
DF: What's your time frame for web services?
K: will talk with Victor and group, just starting this type of work
DF: So the last step is consuming the physical mapping. Would you see IMG showing all the identifiers or pointing to a Resolver somewhere?
K: We would probably point out to the resolver.
DF: Have you talked about MIGS/MIMS with Victor, you might be interested in the calls with CAMERA on Fridays
K: yes, will try to attend next week
Actions:
- K: to post spreadsheet, point us to policy on the web
- TG to parse the IMG spreadsheet, replacing IMG id's from GOLD with those directy from IMG
- DF: add IMG to GRS wiki page
