Using the Genome Catalogue
From Genomic Standards Consortium
This page describes the general functions available in the Genome Catalogue. A separate page describes password-protected functions.
On this page: |
[edit] Browse
You can browse reports contained in the database using the Browse page: http://darwin.nox.ac.uk/gsc/gcat/intro-view-reports
Further information: browse reports
[edit] Search
A keyword search function is available. This function searches the reports contained in the Genome Catalogue.
Match reports are returned in a table with options to view the XML and HTML versions of the reports.
[edit] Filter Reports
The filter reports page allows you to apply multiple filters to the reports contained in the Genome Catalogue. The filters allow you to define which reports to return. A maximum of 50 reports are returned when a filter is applied. The filter is valid for your current session.
A future enhancement will allow the filter to be saved to your user profile, and also applied in other report functions in the Genome Catalogue, e.g. the keyword search.
[edit] Your Bookmarks
In the browse reports and filter reports pages, you are able to bookmark selected reports. Bookmarked reports are available during the current session and listed in the bookmarks page. The bookmarked reports are specific to you and cannot be viewed by others.
If you are logged in, you are able to save the bookmarks to your user profile. The bookmarks will be available when you next log in to the Genome Catalogue.
[edit] Tags
The Genome Catalogue allows everyone to add tags to genome reports. Tags are hyperlinked and provide an additional method to explore genome reports in the Genome Catalogue.

[edit] Genome Map
The Genome Map is a world map that includes hyperlinked markers for genomes described in the Genome Catalogue, that have a defined latitude and longitude.
http://darwin.nox.ac.uk/gsc/gcat/xtr/map/genomemap.html
The Genome Map makes use of Google Maps, and uses the latitude/longitude values contained in the relevant genome reports to populate the genome map with markers. Each marker lists the genomes that have the corresponding latitude/longitude. For each genome, the following information is provided:
- genome report title
- genome report author
- GCAT Identifier - hyperlinked to genome report
- latitude
- longitude
[edit] Query the Web
Query the Web is a feature that allows you to search multiple information resources on the web and present the result on a single page. Resources that are queried include NCBI Genome Project, PubMed, Yahoo images, Flickr, YouTube video, Technorati blogs, del.icio.us social bookmarks
